Temporary Seasonal Farm Employment — Elkland, Missouri

Le Noir Family Farms is accepting inquiries for a temporary seasonal orchard position at our working family farm and agritourism site near Elkland, Missouri.

The employee will perform specialized orchard establishment, pruning, tree training, plant-health monitoring, and organic-compatible disease-management work for apple, cherry, and other fruit trees. Because portions of the orchard are open to farm visitors, the employee must also communicate professionally and courteously when working around families and children.

Primary Duties

The position includes:

  • Pruning and training young and established fruit trees
  • Monitoring trees for disease, pests, nutrient deficiencies, and structural problems
  • Applying approved organic-compatible orchard treatments
  • Maintaining orchard health and treatment records
  • Planting, staking, tying, watering, mulching, and protecting trees
  • Grafting, thinning, sucker removal, weed control, and mowing
  • Operating authorized orchard tools, sprayers, tractors, mowers, and utility vehicles
  • Maintaining safe orchard pathways and communicating safety rules to visitors when necessary

Visitor interaction is incidental to the employee’s primary agricultural duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must:

  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Be able to bend, reach, climb, stand, and walk for extended periods
  • Possess documented orchard, pruning, plant-health, or pest-management training
  • Communicate professionally with coworkers, customers, families, and children
  • Follow orchard sanitation, equipment-safety, and treatment-label requirements

Acceptable formal training must include Penn State Extension orchard-management, plant-health diagnosis, or pruning courses; Cornell University tree-fruit production or scouting courses; or substantially equivalent university, extension, governmental, or recognized industry training. Applicants may submit foreign credentials demonstrating equivalent knowledge.

Employment Information

This is a temporary seasonal agricultural position located in Elkland, Missouri.

Final employment dates, scheduled hours, wage rate, benefits, transportation terms, and other conditions will be governed by the approved job order. Qualified U.S. applicants and other workers legally eligible for the position will be considered using the same job-related requirements.

Employer-provided housing may be available to eligible workers under the terms of the approved job order.
